a night without sound

the day i let you go, i did not cry. there was a hurricane in my throat, but i did not cry.

there was a vulture pecking at my ribs, but i did not cry. the sun climbed up the sky and turned black. but i did not cry. my hands shook as if i was hanging from a cloud trying not to fall. but i did not cry. my mother told me maybe it was just not meant to be. but i did not cry. i threw away all my linens because they held you in your sleep too. and did not cry. i watched spring come and look for you and crawl back to winter. but did not cry.

and the sky broke in half so the rain could do it for me, dusting the earth of every memory we ever made. and.

i did not cry.
